Dear blog, I've been neglecting you much. So many things to talk about. I think I may need therapy. Last day of practicum today! next goal : get my driver's licence! I must do it. I need a lot of practice, but I am determined to get my licence before the june holidays are over. Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day. I am voting for the first time. It feels extraordinary to be taking part in the democratic process, finally! Finally I feel like I have some sort of stake in this country. That my voice counts. Though I don't think the miw will be overthrown, perhaps they may start listening to the people whom they are supposed to serve more. The general discontent has been brewing since the last election. Social media has played a huge role this time around. I feel like i'm living in an exciting time for Singapore. It is from now on that things will change. For the better, we all hope. F and I have been going through tough times, I do not know where we stand and what our future will be. together or apart? ah how it breaks my heart to think about our situation. Kavita :) 9:24 PM |

Been back in Singapore for three months now. It's strange. Things have changed a lot here. I feel even more alienated than when I left five years ago. It's so crowded, on the roads, in the trains, in the ubiquitous shopping mall this blog has served it's purpose. I will print it out and bind these pages one day. I'm thinking I should keep this blog alive, but change the topic. Reiki maybe. Kavita :) 10:24 AM |

an excerpt from a convo with Elizabeth other examples of french thinking: if i say, in asia, meat is not the princial element of a meal, they will reply, oh, cos asians are all poor not because, for hindus and buddhist for example, meat is prohibited and meals aren't just designed the same way If i tell them, for the chinese, people usually eat at resttaurants in big groups, and there are communcal dishes which everyone is meant to share..they will say, oh, that's cos china is overpopulated if i say, in singapore it's customary to take of one's shoes before entering the hosue, they will say, oh , that's cos your roads are all made of mud, ur shoes must get very dirty if i say ' there is not much old film documentary about singapore in the olden days', they will reply, ' that's cos himidity doesn't conserve film well' ( they think that it's so bad that our clothes don't even dry, and our cds rot) Kavita :) 7:58 AM |

François and I have booked our air tickets back: it's official, we will be back in Singapore of the 22nd of July! It's starting to sink in that i'm leaving and I'm starting to feel sad about it. France can be a really frustrating place to live in, but I have grown up so much here, and it has taught me much, shown me new ways of thinking, broadened my outlook. At the same time it has made me prouder of my country, my asian identity, made me realise that singapore is not so bad after all. The good pastries and cheese i'll miss. the pretty buildings, countryside, history, the fact that I will not have to think about $ problems... At least I'm bringing back a real live Frenchman as a souvenir. :) Kavita :) 6:59 PM |
